Winnebago County GOP Chair Backs Chesney

Freeport – Jim Thompson, Rockford attorney and Winnebago County Republican Chairman, has announced his personal endorsement of Andrew Chesney for State Representative in the 89th District. The district is currently represented by Brian Stewart who is running for the State Senate seat being vacated by Tim Bivins. Thompson’s personal endorsement is approaching a near sweep of GOP Chair endorsements from every county GOP Chairman in the 89th District

“We have three of the best state representatives in Springfield here in Winnebago County and they are all supporting Andrew. Brian Stewart represents areas in the western portion of Winnebago County, Joe Sosnowski represents areas in the Eastern portion and John Cabello represents areas in the northern portion. I have known Andrew for several years and believe he is a perfect addition to this outstanding legislative team,” said Thompson.

“We need to have aggressive hard charging people who will get things done in Springfield and challenge the established way of doing things. Andrew’s business background makes him a well-rounded candidate for state representative because he can be aggressive with the support of a job and life outside of politics. We need more citizen-legislators in Springfield in order to make the changes we need as a state,” said Thompson.

“Chairman Thompson is a consistent conservative. He continues to be an effective voice in Winnebago as we work together to solve the challenges of northwest Illinois. It’s an honor to have his individual endorsement and words of encouragement,” said Chesney.

Thompson is an attorney in private practice in Rockford who has served as a precinct committeeman for over 25 years and the last decade as Vice Chairman and Chairman respectively. He also serves currently as a vice-chair (Northern Region) of the Republican County Chairmen’s Association in Illinois.

Chesney announced his candidacy for the 89th Illinois House district seat in September following the announcement that current State Representative Brian Stewart (R-Freeport) would be seeking election to the Illinois State Senate upon the retirement next year of current State Senator Tim Bivins (R-Dixon).

A native of Shannon, Illinois, Chesney is the current alderman at large in the city of Freeport and a division sales manager for Seaga Manufacturing in Freeport. He is also the current chairman of the Stephenson County Republican Central Committee. He and his wife Kelly live in Freeport. The 89th Illinois House District is made up of parts of Carroll, Jo Daviess, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside, and Winnebago Counties.
