Freeport—89th District State Representative Brian Stewart is announcing his endorsement of Andrew Chesney’s campaign for the 89th District seat. If elected, Chesney will succeed Stewart who is running for the State Senate. Stewart’s endorsement in the March 20th Primary is a significant development in the race.
“My decision to run for the State Senate was in part based on making sure that the 89th District remained in the Republican column and that my constituents would continue to be served well in Springfield. Andrew Chesney’s interest to run for my seat helped convince me to move to the other chamber in the Illinois legislature,” said Representative Brian Stewart.
“I have worked hard in the Illinois House to introduce and support legislation that will help all of northwest Illinois and it is critical that we have the right person to continue that leadership.” Andrew Chesney has demonstrated the ability to wage a disciplined campaign and he has displayed the kind of leadership that will be welcomed amongst the Republican Caucus members in the house,” said Representative Stewart.
“I am honored to have the support of Representative Brian Stewart. As an alderman I have worked with Representative Stewart on local issues that required support in Springfield. Representative Stewart has always shown that he represents his constituents first and I plan on modeling my service in the same way.” said Andrew Chesney.
Chesney announced his candidacy for the 89th Illinois House district seat in September following the announcement that current State Representative Brian Stewart (R-Freeport) would be seeking election to the Illinois State Senate upon the retirement next year of current State Senator Tim Bivins (R-Dixon).
A native of Shannon, Illinois, Chesney is the current alderman at large in the city of Freeport and a division sales manager for Seaga Manufacturing in Freeport. He is also the current chairman of the Stephenson County Republican Central Committee. He and his wife Kelly live in Freeport.
The 89th Illinois House District is made up of parts of Carroll, Jo Daviess, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside, and Winnebago Counties.
