Scott Helms-Stephenson County Board Member supports Chesney

Freeport—Stephenson County Board Member Scott Helms has announced his support and endorsement of Andrew Chesney for State Representative in the 89th Illinois House District. Helms is a member of the Stephenson County board and former 6th Ward Alderman of the City of Freeport. He is the executive vice president of a local bank and also serves as a board member for another local banking entity.

“I am very pleased to lend my support to Andrew Chesney and his campaign for state representative. As an alderman and now a county board member, I see first-hand what kind of ripple effect occurs when you have an out of control state government that can’t seem to live within its means and only represents specific groups and special interests. Andrew Chesney has the energy and strong desire to serve ALL residents of the 89th district. He also has the skill set necessary to take on the Springfield politics that have gotten our state in the mess that it is in,” said Scott Helms.

“My career path is steeped in business and finance – focusing on growth as a primary mission toward financial success. Much of my political and civic activity has been in and around economic development and the benefits that communities receive who focus on these principles. In Springfield they tend to do the opposite and that is why we need Andrew Chesney as our representative in Springfield,” said Helms.

“Scott Helms support and endorsement mean a lot to me. Scott’s business and government background and his general philosophy track with mine. Scott runs for office as a public servant and I too want to be a public servant rather than a career politician. I look forward to working with Scott and taking his counsel on the many issues facing the 89th District and its residents,” said Andrew Chesney.

Chesney announced his candidacy for the 89th Illinois House district seat in September following the announcement that current State Representative Brian Stewart (R-Freeport) would be seeking election to the Illinois State Senate upon the retirement next year of current State Senator Tim Bivins (R-Dixon).

A native of Shannon, Illinois, Chesney is the current alderman at large in the city of Freeport and a division sales manager for Seaga Manufacturing in Freeport. He is also the current chairman of the Stephenson County Republican Central Committee. He and his wife Kelly live in Freeport.

The 89th Illinois House District is made up of parts of Carroll, Jo Daviess, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside, and Winnebago Counties.
