FREEPORT—Mike Dittmar, the current chairman of the Jo Daviess County Republican Central Committee, has announced he is supporting Freeport city alderman Andrew Chesney in the race for the 89th Illinois House seat.
Dittmar, who also serves as the village president for the town of Elizabeth, says Chesney is the type of leader northwest Illinois needs representing them in Springfield. “Over the past few years a number of good things have been in happening in Freeport. Progress in that community is being made,” says Dittmar, a farmer and school teacher. “I attribute many of those changes and much of that progress to the leadership of Andrew Chesney and the other leaders in that community that he has inspired to get involved.
That’s the kind of leadership we need in the Illinois General Assembly and that’s why I am supporting Andrew.” “I am honored and couldn’t be happier in receiving the endorsement and support of Mike Dittmar,” says Chesney of Dittmar. “Mike understands on a personal level the needs of our teachers, farmers, and small communities in our area. It’s people like Mike Dittmar who make northwest Illinois the great place it is and it’s people like Mike that I hope to represent in Springfield.”
Chesney announced his candidacy for the 89th Illinois House district seat in
September following the announcement that current State Representative Brian Stewart (R-Freeport) would be seeking election to the Illinois State Senate upon the retirement next year of current State Senator Tim Bivens (R-Dixon).
A native of Shannon, Illinois, Chesney is the current alderman at large in the city of Freeport and a division sales manager for Seaga Manufacturing in Freeport. He is also the current chairman of the Stephenson County Republican Central Committee. He and his wife Kelly live in Freeport.
The 89th Illinois House District is made up of parts of Carroll, Jo Daviess, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside, and Winnebago Counties.
