FREEPORT MAYOR ENDORSES CHESNEY FOR STATE REP.

Freeport, IL Mayor, Jodi Miller

FREEPORT—Republican candidate for the 89th Illinois House seat Andrew Chesney
secured a highly coveted endorsement today with the announcement that Freeport Mayor Jodi Miller will be supporting his campaign this election. The co-owner and manager of Freeport’s iconic Union Dairy ice cream parlor was elected handily in April of 2017 with 54% of the vote in a three-way race. Miller was first elected to the Freeport City Council in 2015 and has been a vocal advocate for progress and change in Freeport.

“Today I proudly announce my support for Andrew Chesney for State Representative,” said Miller. “Andrew has been one of our community’s strongest proponents for improving public safety in Freeport and reducing crime and blight in our neighborhoods. He has been a leader on our City Council for reducing
government waste, redundancy, and burden to the taxpayer. He understands the importance of economic development and job growth. He is the kind of energetic leader we need representing us in Springfield  and I am excited that he has entered this race.”

“I have truly enjoyed working with Mayor Miller—both as mayor and as an alderman, but also as my friend,” said Chesney of the endorsement. “I am honored that she is supporting me and look forward to continuing to work with her and the Freeport City Council should I get elected in 2018.”

Chesney said it is important for the 89th House District’s next state representative to develop strong relationships with local mayors, village presidents, county board chairmen, and other locally elected officials.

“Though we all share a number of common needs in northwest Illinois, every community in our area has its own set of challenges and opportunities,” said Chesney. “As state representative, I want to be the strongest advocate possible for our communities and make Springfi eld work for us for a change.”

Chesney announced his candidacy for the 89th Illinois House district seat in September following the announcement that current State Representative Brian Stewart (R-Freeport) would be seeking election to the Illinois State Senate upon the retirement next year of current State Senator Tim Bivens (R-Dixon).

A native of Shannon, Illinois, Chesney is the current alderman at large in the city of Freeport and a division sales manager for Seaga Manufacturing in Freeport. He is also the current chairman of the Stephenson County Republican Central Committee. He and his wife Kelly live in Freeport. The 89th Illinois House District is made up of parts of Carroll, Jo Daviess, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside, and Winnebago Counties.
