MANZULLO BACKS CHESNEY IN 89TH HOUSE RACE

Freeport–Former Republican United States Congressman Don Manzullo has announced he is endorsing Andrew Chesney for State Representative in the 89th Illinois House District. Elected to Congress in 1992, Manzullo represented northwest Illinois for two decades.

“I am happy to support Andrew Chesney for State Representative. The 89th District where Andrew is running was a big part of my former congressional district. I know the people there well and I believe that Andrew knows his future constituents and their needs and he will, be their voice in Springfield,” said Manzullo. “Andrew is running because he sees a need, to change the direction in which Springfield is heading. He has the work ethic and the right perspective and position on the issues to bring prosperity back to Illinois and help create opportunities for our children and grandchildren.”

Congressman Manzullo’s support is a great boost to my campaign,” said Chesney of the endorsement. “Those who know Don Manzullo hold him in high regard for his principles and his integrity. He was as a dogged advocate for his constituents and the issues important to them. If I am elected I want to earn that same reputation for my service to my constituents in state legislature.”

During his tenure in office, Manzullo served during in both Democratic and Republican controlled Congresses as well as Presidential administrations run by both parties. Manzullo’s integrity and hard work were noted by colleagues on both sides of the aisle and it enabled him to enlist support for legislation and projects that were beneficial to his district and his constituents. Additionally, Manzullo was known for his principled conservative stance on the issues, his tenacious focus on advancing legislation, and his strong constituent service.

Chesney announced his candidacy for the 89th Illinois House district seat in September following the announcement that current State Representative Brian Stewart (R-Freeport) would be seeking election to the Illinois State Senate upon the retirement next year of current State Senator Tim Bivens (R-Dixon).

A native of Shannon, Illinois, Chesney is the current alderman at large in the city of Freeport and a division sales manager for Seaga Manufacturing in Freeport. He is also the current chairman of the Stephenson County Republican Central Committee. He and his wife Kelly live in Freeport.

The 89th Illinois House District is made up of parts of Carroll, Jo Daviess, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside, and Winnebago Counties.
